What Horses Teach Us About Nervous-System Regulation

We often recognize that horses having a calming energy to us, we see that when approach them we tend to move slowly, and make sure we are safe and secure around them. We are often told to stay back incase anything bad may happen, we are often told they will kick, they will bite, which is aboslutely true. I have seen my life flash before my eyes when a damn near dragon lunges at you. Horses notice us, they notice our tension, our posture, our energy we are carrying - and even our own breathing. They are hyper-aware of our senses and begin to match our energy. People often feel calmer towards horses, not only due to their beauty, but due to the fact that they acutally exist. Magestic, yet cautious. Free-spirited, but controlled. We see them, and we immediately are hypnotized by their aura. To me, they are a sliver of heaven on earth. The consistant care of animals alone help bring us back into routine. They are grounding, and force us to care for another that we love everyday. They make us feel secure when we are create the same habits everyday. They look at us and they know they can put all gaurds down. It's a silent language we speak. The supportive relationship between you and your horse serves as a foundation step toward developing skills that help regulate your emotions. Your calm tone of voice, warm interactions, and constant management of caring for them, reflects their emotionally secure energy onto you. It's like a dance. When you are with your horse, there are may ways to continue to ground yourself to them. They are complex creatures that require supreme care. Check their hooves, ears, mane, eyes, body movements, joints, and breathing. You can observe them and continue to educate yourself in keeping them in top-priority. The better the health, the longer your years will be spent with them. Horses dont always need to be ridden. You can build a deeper, more respected connection with your horse by spending more time dilly-dallying around them, rather than riding on their backs. As you do things around the outside of your house, or cleaning around the barn. Ignore them, let them be curious of you. Horses arent the answer to everything. They arent here to fix us, but they are here to make us recognize ourselves and what truly matters. We deserve to have our dreams come true, and if you are following this path - you have some type of appreciation for animals & living creatures. They give us identity to who we are. We recognize that, and we realize there is a reason to help another, it grounds us. We love to care for others, and we only want to help those who can't speak for themselves. It takes the harsh world of the everyday grind, and it bring us back to feeling a sense of purpose again. This is what helps regulate your nervous-system. It's incredible how such a simple place, like a horses on a ranch, or wild-ones out in the mountains, can have the ability to take the stress from the pressure from society, work and has the ability to completely reinvent ourselves, like a fresh start.
